2Checkout Gateway is a plugin that extends WooCommerce, allowing you to take payments via 2Checkout. This plugin utilizes the 2CO Pass-Through-Products Parameters that enables you to use the gateway without having to create the products in the 2CO sellers area.

General information

When the order goes through, the user is taken to 2CO to make a secure payment. No SSL certificate is required on your site. After payment the order is confirmed and the user is taken back to the thank you page.

2CO is a committed partner to protecting you, your business and your customers from fraudulent activities. 2CO uses statistical algorithms and data collection techniques to assess more than 300 variables in under 3 seconds to identify markers of fraud.

Installation

Purchase and download the plugin zip file from WooThemes

Login to your WordPress Admin. Click on Plugins | Add New from the left hand menu

Click on the “Upload” option, then click “Browse” to select the zip file from your computer. Once selected, press “OK” and press the “Install Now” button.

Activate the plugin.

Configure the gateway

To configure the plugin, click on WooCommerce | Settings from the left hand menu, then the top tab “Payment Gateways”. You should see “2Checkout” as an option in the list.

Optionally you can select the radio button next to this option to make it the default gateway.

You should see “2Checkout” displayed across the top of the page as a link also. Click on this to configure the plugin, and you will see a list of options:

Enable/Disable checkbox for this gateway.

The “Title” option allows you to determine what your customers will see this payment option described as on the checkout page.

The “Description” box controls the message that appears under the payment fields on the checkout page.

2Checkout account number - Requested from 2Checkout.

2Checkout Secret Word – Defined by you in the 2CO account area (under –> Account –> Site management).

Purchase Routine – Choose between Single Page Checkout (spurchase) or Standard Purchase Routine (purchase). Read more about the different payment routines below.

Send Order Total as one item - Send the entire order as one single item to 2Checkout. This can be useful when selling physical products but still want to use the 2Checkout Single Page Checkout.

Test Mode – This is just to test your 2Checkout account information. No payment will be made.

Debug – If this option is checked then details of communication with 2Checkout are stored in a debug log at location /wp-content/plugins/woocommerce/logs/2checkout.txt.

Press Save changes to save your changes.

Purchase routines

Standard Purchase Routine (purchase)

When using the Standard Purchase Routine, the customer will be required to navigate through several pages and fill in the requested billing and shipping information (if applicable) to complete their order. The Standard Purchase Routine allows the customer to pay with credit card & via Paypal.

Single Page Checkout (spurchase)

This purchase routine will list all of the customer’s cart information and billing information fields on a single page. The Single Page Checkout only allows credit cards. The Single Page Checkout is only used if the basket only contains intangible products (products set as Downloadable or Virtual Product Types in WooCommerce). If the basket contains tangible products or shipping cost, 2Checkout will automatically redirect the customer to the Standard Purchase Routine.

Shipping and purchase routines

If you offer free shipping for tangible (i.e. physical) products, you need to add a New Shipping Method in your 2CO account. Under Shipping (in your 2CO account) you can add a New Shipping Method. Set the pricing to Free and then choose which countries this method should apply to.

If you sell physical products but still want to use the 2Checkout Single Page Checkout (or if you offer free shipping and don’t want to set up the Free Shipping Method in your 2CO account) you can activate the “Send Order Total as one item” checkbox in the gateway settings. This feature does just what it sounds like, it collects the Order Total and send it to 2Checkout as one intangible product (i.e. non physical).

2Checkout account setup

This plugin uses 2Checkout’s x_receipt_link_url parameter to send the customer back to your site after payment is completed. For the return process to work properly the domain of your webshop must match the domain registered to the 2Checkout account.

Browse to –> Account –> Site Management –> Direct Return. Make sure that the radiobox Given links back to my website is checked.

Browse to –> Notifications –> Order Created. Enter the URL to your Thank You Page.
From version 1.3.2 the URL must be changed to http://yourdomain.com/?wc-api=WC_Gateway_Twocheckout

Currency

The currency specified in WooCommerce must match the currency that has been specified in your 2Checkout account. Otherwise, the customer will be charged with the wrong amount.

WooCommerce version 2.0 compatibility

Version 1.3.3 of the 2Checkout gateway is compatible with WooCommerce version 2.0.

From version 1.3.3 the callback URL must be changed to https://yourdomain.com/?wc-api=wc-api=WC_Gateway_Twocheckout

Login to your 2Checkout account. Navigate to –> Notifications –> Settings.

Change the URL in Order created to - https://yourdomain.com/?wc-api=wc-api=WC_Gateway_Twocheckout

Now for the fun stuff, adding your products! But before diving into your first product you should familiarise yourself with how product categories, tags and attributes work.

Adding a product

Taxonomies

As you would expect, categories and tags work in very much the same way as any other post type categories and tags. They can be applied before, or during the creation of a product.

Attributes on the other hand are a little different – they can be added per-product, or you can set global attributes up for the entire store to use (for example in layered navigation).

See: Setting up product attributes

Product Types

With attributes and categories set up and stock management configured, we can begin to actually add products. When adding your product the first thing to ascertain is which type of product it will be.

The Simple product type covers the vast majority of any products you may sell. Simple products are shipped and have no options. For example, a can of drink.

A Grouped product is a collection of related products which can be purchased individually. For example, a PS3 could be a grouped product as there are 80GB, 120GB and 200GB variations of that same parent product.

An External or Affiliate product is one which you list and describe on your web site, but is sold elsewhere.

A Variable product is a product which has several different variations, each of which may have a different SKU, price, stock options etc. For example a tshirt available in several different colours and/or sizes.

Adding a simple product

Adding a simple product is a straight forward process and not too dissimilar from authoring a standard WordPress post. In the Products menu click Add Product; you will be presented with a familiar interface, and should immediately see where to type the product title and full description.

A familiar interface for adding product information

Under the main dialog box is the Product Type panel. Here you define the product type (as outlined above) and whether it is a downloadable (digital), or virtual (service) product.

Virtual products don’t require shipping – an order containing virtual products won’t calculate a shipping cost

Product data

Next is the Product Data tab set. This is where the majority of the product data is input.

Product data is added from this panel

General tab

SKU – stock keep unit, used to track products. Must be unique, and should be named so it does not clash with post ID’s.

Price:

Regular Price – The item’s main price.

Sale Price – The item’s sale price.

Weight – Weight of the item.

Dimensions – Length, width, and height for the item.

Tax tab

In the tax tab you define the products tax status and if you’ve set up additional tax classes, which tax class the product belongs to. You can set up tax classes in WooCommerce > Settings > Tax.

Inventory tab

The inventory tab allows you to manage stock for the product individually and define whether to allow back orders. If stock management is disabled from the settings page, only the ‘stock status’ option will be visible.

Up-sells/cross-sells tab

Using up-sells and cross-sells you can cross promote your products with one another. They can be added by searching for a particular product, then clicking the ‘Up-sell’ or ‘Cross-sell’ button in the search results:

After adding them, they will be listed on the right side of the panel:

Up-sells are displayed on the product details page. These are products which you may wish to encourage users to upgrade to based on the product they are currently viewing. For example if the user is viewing the Nintendo DS product listing page, you may want to display the Nintendo 3DS on that same page as an up-sell.

Cross-sells are products which are displayed at the cart and related to the users cart contents. As an example if the user adds a Nintendo DS to their cart, when the arrive at the cart page you may want to suggest that they also purchase spare Styluses.

Attributes tab

On the attributes tab you can assign attributes to a product. You will see a select box containing any global attribute sets you may have created (E.G. platform). See Setting up atttributes for help on setting these up.

Once you have selected an attribute from the select box, click add and you will be able to apply the terms attached to that attribute (E.G. Nintendo DS) to the product. You can choose to hide the attribute on the frontend by simply leaving the ‘Visible’ checkbox unticked.

Custom attributes can be applied here too by choosing ‘Custom product attribute’ from the select box. These are added at the product level and won’t be available in the layered navigation.

Grouping tab

The grouping tab lets you assign your simple product to a grouped product if one exists. You can also set the sort order if you want the product to appear in a specific order when viewing the grouped product.

Excerpt

Finally you can add an excerpt which should be a short description of the product. Typically this will appear next to the product imagery on the listing page whilst the long description will appear within the Product Description tab.

Taxonomies

On the right hand side of the Add New Product panel you will see your product categories in which you can place your product, just like a standard WordPress post. You can also assign the product tags in the same manner.

Product images

You can add both a main image and a gallery of images – see Adding product image and galleries

Setting catalog visibility and feature status

In the publish panel you can set catalog visibility for your product.

Catalog visibility

Visibility can be set to:

Catalog and search - visible everywhere

Catalog - visible in catalog loops, but not search

Search - visible in search results, but not in the catalog (categories/shop page)

Hidden - only visible on the single product page – not in any product loops

Adding a grouped product

A grouped product is created in much the same way as a simple product. The only difference in fact is choosing “Grouped” from the Product Type dropdown in the General tab. Upon choosing this the price several fields will disappear, this is fine, you’ll be adding these fields to the individual child products. Once you’re happy with the grouped (parent) product, publish it and come back to the Add New Product page.

Now you need to add the child product which sits within the grouped product. The only information you’re required to fill in here is the following:

Title. E.G. Playstation 3 80 GB

Product Type (simple)

Parent post (inside the Advanced tab). Choose your parent (E.G. Playstation 3) from the selectbox

Adding a virtual product

When adding a simple product, you can check the ‘virtual‘ box in the product type panel. This will remove un-necessary fields (such as dimensions).

Adding a downloadable product

When adding a simple product, you can check the ‘downloadable‘ box in the product type panel. This will add two new fields:

File path – path or url to your downloadable file.

Download limit – a limit for the number of times the customer can download the file. Left blank for unlimited downloads.

For maximum flexibility, downloadable products also incur a shipping cost (if for example you were offering both a packaged version, and a downloadable version of a product this would be ideal). You can also check the ‘virtual’ box if the downloadable product is not shippable.

Adding an external product

Choose ‘External/Affiliate’ from the product type drop down. This will remove unnecessary tabs such as tax and inventory and insert a new product URL field. This is the destination at which users can purchase the product. Rather than add to cart buttons, they will see a read more button directing them to this URL.

Adding a variable product

Variable products are arguably the most complex of product types. They let you define variations of a single product where each variation may have a different SKU, price or stock level.

See Product Variations for a guide on adding and setting up variations.

To enable the weight and dimension fields go to WooCommerce > Settings > Catalog:

The featured image

The featured post image is the main image for your product. It is the image which will be displayed within your product loops (IE on product categories, up sells, related products etc) and the initial focus of the image gallery on your product details page.

Adding the featured image

Adding product galleries

Product galleries simply display all images attached to a product, with the Featured Image being the primary image. To create a product gallery just attach the images you want to appear in the gallery to the product. The easiest was to achieve this is to simply click the Upload/Insert icon on the Add New Product screen and drag your images to the upload box.

An example of a product gallery

Image dimension settings

On the catalog tab of the WooCommerce settings you’ll see three image dimension inputs.

Catalog Images appear on your shop loops. Product categories, up sells / cross sells etc

Single Product Image is the main image on your product details page

Product thumbnails are the gallery thumbnails on your product details page (if you have a gallery)

The images you upload will be resized to match the values your input here accurately as possible. IE if your settings are 100×100 and you upload a 300×600 image it will be resized to 100×200. You can also choose to ‘hard crop’ your images which will force them to be the size specified in these settings, regardless of the raw image you upload, but will be cropped rather than distorted in scale.

Remember if you change these settings after uploading product imagery you will need to regenerate your thumbnails within WordPress for the changes to be applied to your current imagery. To do this we recommend using the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin.

Define custom image dimensions in a bespoke theme

If you’re building a custom theme, you may want to configure these settings automatically. You can do so by using the following snippet; set image dimensions in a custom theme.

Excluding an image from the product gallery

When managing your gallery you have the choice to exclude an image by checking the exclude option:

Exclude an image

These can be used for anything; notifying staff and users of sales, sending stock notices to suppliers, or even sending new orders to drop shippers.

To get started, go to WooCommerce > Recipients.

Creating a recipient

On the recipients screen click the ‘Add Recipient’ button:

After doing so you will be presented with the Add Recipient screen. The main section on this page is the contact details for the recipient:

The name of the recipient will be displayed in the emails the recipient receives.

The email addresses (which can be comma separated if multiple addresses should be used) will receive the notifications.

Below those fields you can add some additional details such as telephone and address; these are not used by the plugin but may be useful for your reference.

Next, you need to setup which notifications this recipient should get.

Assigning notifications

In the next section you can choose what notifications your recipient should receive, and in what format.

The following options are available:

Email format

Choose plain text or html emails (default). Some users may prefer plain text, and they would also be less likely to get caught in spam filters.

Enable notifications

Choose from:

Purchases – Sent for new orders. These notifications contain order and customer details.

Low stock – Sent when an item is getting low is stock (based on the threshold set in WC settings). These emails contain stock and product information.

Out of stock – Sent when an item is out of stock. These emails contain stock and product information.

Backorders – Sent when an item is backordered (stock < 0 ). These emails contain stock and product information.

These are the types of notifications this recipient will receive.

Include prices

Choose whether or not prices for products will be hidden in the email.

Include order totals

Choose whether or not order totals for products will be hidden in the email.

Notification triggers

Triggers determine which products and orders trigger notifications to be sent. You may choose:

All purchases – Any order item will trigger a notification

Product categories – Purchases of products in the product category will trigger a notification.

Product shipping classes - Purchases of products in the product shipping class will trigger a notification.

You can leave this blank if you want to use per-product triggers (see below). When using this, only the matching trigger’s product will be displayed in the notification – this keeps other products hidden and private.

If you chose All purchases, all products will be included in the email.

Assigning per-product triggers to notifications

After setting up a notification with per-product triggers you can setup notifications to only apply to selected products only. To do this, edit the product itself and look for the notifications box:

Choose the recipients who should get notifications for the product. This will apply to all of the recipients configured notifications.

Note, this box will only be displayed if you have a per-product triggered notification setup in advance.

The Recipients List

After adding your recipient they will be listed on the main notifications screen shown below.

Edit or delete the recipient using the action buttons on the far right.

Changing the email template

There are two templates inside this plugin:

emails/new_order.php

emails/new_order_plain.php

You can override these templates, for customisation, by placing them inside your theme folder using this structure:

yourtheme/woocommerce-advanced-notifications/emails/new_order.php

yourtheme/woocommerce-advanced-notifications/emails/new_order_plain.php
